Battery Care

What to do:

  • Have your battery checked by an expert.
  • Store Batteries in areas protected against the elements to prevent deterioration.
  • Keep batteries fully charged.
  • Ensure correct polarity connection when recharging, fitting and jump starting. (Positive to Positive; Negative to Negative)
  • Follow recharging schedules to prevent overcharging.
  • Use only petroleum jelly on the terminals. ( Not grease )
  • Ensure that the terminal posts and battery are always clean and dry.

What Not to do:

  • Do not top-up cells with acid or tap water.
  • Do not store batteries in a discharged state.
  • Do not stand or sit on batteries.
  • Do not test batteries by shorting across terminal posts, with wire, pliers, etc.
  • Do not leave parked vehicle with accessories switched on.
  • Do not use single spanner to tighten battery clamp, this damages post lid seal. (Spanner to nut and spanner to bolt.)
  • Do not allow open flame/spark near battery, it can explode.
