Health
and Safety
Burning
- It
is hazardous to burn any battery. It can explode, the chemicals
inside are dangerous, the metal oxides produced can be toxic.
Swallowing
- Medical
advice must be sought promptly. Small batteries can easily be
swallowed. They should be stored where this will not happen.
Damage
- If
the shell is punctured, corrosive chemicals are exposed. Seal
in a plastic container and dispose of safely.
Charging
- Lead
Acid batteries and other batteries if they are overcharged can
give off explosive gasses (Hydrogen and Oxygen). Allow ventilation.
Do not attempt to recharge primary--non rechargeable--batteries.
The battery can rupture, explosive gases can be evolved.
Short
Circuit
- Some
of these batteries will produce currents of more than 100 Amps.
The spark can cause a severe burn or a fire.
